Determinism vs. Freewill

by Derek J. Sansone Moses was indeed an exterior force. He had a huge effect on humanity. But just because an exterior force confronts you, doesn’t mean we can't probe it with our minds to see if we desire to trust it. If you don't trust what Moses wrote it is only due to the lack of exterior forces that have not given you the necessary amount of desire to do so. Personal local (Social) construction is a part of global universal construction. What was happening to people in Asia effected what was happening to people in The Middle East. The Romans centurions were living out only what they were allowed to when whipping Jesus. Nothing is supposed. An effect can't possibly be deliberate. We don’t know the first cause...Evolution can’t give origin, neither can Theism…. We all observe a world of conflicting desires. That's it. Each of us interacts with the unstoppable mixing of inner-reflexive human necessities that our bodies automatically need. Our human bodie...

Top 130 (plus or minus) ways to irritate an ex-Christian

* 1. Ask them why they are bitter against God. * 2. Tell them that they might as well go out and kill people if there's no God. * 3. Ask them to pray with you. * 4. Invite their children to go to church with you. * 5. Insist that there is a God and show them in the Bible where it says so. * 6. Hide Chick tracts in clever places around their office. * 7. Tell them that the Universe is too complex to "Just Exist" and must have been created by a God who "Just Exists" * 8. Make up statistics to help prove Christianity. * 9. End a discussion with "Well, you're smarter than me, but I know I'm right." * 10. Tell them that you feel they're persecuting you. * 11. Bring up arguments making no sense whatsoever, and criticize their response saying "You're not making sense" * 12. Easter Facts, Quotes and a Quiz For You!

this article reposted from Father Dan's Blog I was going to save this until Sunday but then I started thinking - "Gee, this could be fun to discuss in church, after church at brunch - maybe Friday night during family fun time. . . ." After all, the Bible is the infallible, divinely-inspired word of God, right? The entire Christian religion is based on the resurrection of the Christ - so we know that part of the Good Book will be very accurate! The very crux of the argument for Christianity being the one true religion is that it is the only religion in which the Saviour actually rose from the dead to fulfill prophecy- so let's have a little fun: Father Dan's Easter Quiz: 1. Who first came to the tomb on Sunday morning? a. one woman (John 20:1) b. two women (Matt. 28:1) c. three women (Mark 16:1) d. more than three women (Luke 23:55-56; 24:1,10) 2. She (they) came a. while it was still dark (Matt. 28:1; John 20:1) b. after the sun had risen (Mark 16:2) 3. The woman ...

ExChristian.Net On Stage

Pitchu, one of the active members of the open forums, has decided to bestow on ExChristian.Net, as well as those involved with it, a huge compliment. As some of you may already know, Pitchu is an accomplished playwright. What you may not know is that she desires to devote some of her creative talents and energies toward writing a musical stage presentation illustrating challenges faced by those who leave Christianity. It will be based on stories found right here at ExChristian.Net. Although the characters in the musical will be creations from the writer’s imagination, the plot will revolve around experiences publicly submitted to this site. I’ve given my permission for Pitchu to pursue this vision, and in return she has agreed to support the continuation of ExChristian.net with a portion of any compensation the musical may generate. Regardless of whether any financial gain is actually realized, I am excited about publicizing the reality of “ex-Christians” on the stage. I ...

For Your Enjoyment...

sent in by Ed Babinski Couple who brawled over 'Passion of Christ' arrested March 19, 2004, 6:18AM Associated Press HoustonChronicle.com STATESBORO, Ga. -- A couple who got into a dispute over a theological point after watching The Passion of the Christ were arrested after the argument turned violent. The two left the movie theater debating whether God the Father in the Holy Trinity was human or symbolic, and the argument heated up when they got home, Melissa Davidson said. "It was the dumbest thing we've ever done," she said. Davidson, 34, and her husband, Sean Davidson, 33, were charged with simple battery on March 11 after the two called police on each other. They were released on $1,000 bail. According to a police report, Melissa Davidson suffered injuries on her arm and face, while her husband had a scissors stab wound on his hand and his shirt was ripped off. He also allegedly punched a hole in a wall. "Really, it was kind of a pitiful thing, to go to a...

Christianity - Weapon of Mental Destruction

Jesus Lied About Prayer

Jesus is quoted many times in the Bible saying that a believer can ask for anything through prayer and receive it. He even goes so far as to say that mountains and trees can be thrown into the sea simply by praying for it. This is clearly a lie, and can be proven to be a lie by any believer. Simply pray for me to be converted to Christianity right away. Or better yet ask God to move the mountains behind my house. He could make a lot of converts that way. If I’m converted today, I’ll post a public apology on my web site and devote my life to kissing God’s ass. If I’m not converted it would only be fair for you to apologize and devote your life to kissing my butt. Here are the quotes from Jesus that proves that he lied: And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, `Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will happen. "And ...

The Sin of Adam

Fear of the unknown is a recurrent theme throughout the literary compositions of history and the media creations of our own day. Whether it is the bogey-men of children stories, the monsters of science fiction or the evil caricatures of the horror genre’, it is apparent that we humans are simultaneously enamored and terrified of the unknown. Torn between the adventurous spirit of the explorer and the controlling mind-set of superstition and practicality, we find it difficult to balance the dichotomy of our conflicting nature. The questions that haunt us include, “Can a shortcut to the Orient be found or will we sail off the ends of the earth?” or “Is it better to explore the dangers of space, or to be content believing the stars were created solely to light the night,” The scene in the opening book of the Bible places Adam, translated as man, in a terrible dilemma. He is commanded by his provider to ignore his god given nature. Man, born with an insatiable appetite to know, is told...

HOW I BECAME AN ATHEIST

by RICHARD PACKHAM I have often been asked to tell the story of how I became an atheist. The short - and perhaps somewhat flippant - answer would be: I was born that way. And that's the truth. I am using the word "atheist" to mean someone who does not have a belief in God. And that's exactly the way I was born, as were all of us, I suspect. But that is not the story that I have been asked to tell, and it would not be the complete story, either, since within days after my birth, my very devout Mormon parents started to make a believer of me, by taking me to church to have me "blessed" by the elders and given a Christian name. From then on, until well into my adulthood, I was trained to be a theist, that is, a believer in God. It was a very thorough and time-consuming process, and very effective. Until I was about 27 years old, I was a devout believer in God, as the Mormons understand God. And then I began to return to the "religion" of my birth. The...

American Airlines pilot calls on Christian passengers

NEW YORK (AFP) - An American Airlines pilot is facing an internal investigation after reportedly asking Christian passengers to identify themselves, and suggesting that non-Christians on his flight were "crazy." Speaking Monday on CNN's "American Morning," several passengers said the Sunday flight from Los Angeles to New York had not yet taken off, when the pilot chose to address everyone on board. "He said he'd recently been on a mission trip, and he'd like all the Christians to please raise their hands," said passenger Jen Dorsey. According to fellow passenger Karla Austin, "He said, 'If you are a Christian, raise your hand.' He said, 'If you are not, you're crazy'." Austin said no passengers raised their hands. The pilot also asked passengers to look around at each other and use their flying time wisely. American Airlines said the pilot, whose name was not revealed, had recently returned from a mission trip to C...

Reflections on a Mote of Dust

Image
sent in by Fweethawt "We succeeded in taking that picture [from deep space], and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam. "The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary mast...

Viruses of the Mind

by John J. Palazzini In his essay, "Viruses of the Mind", biologist Richard Dawkins described religion as a virus. A traditional virus is a sequence of genetic information that invades an organism and uses the resources of that organism to further replicate itself; likewise, a memetic virus is a sequence of information, an idea, that invades a human's brain and replicates itself via that brain's communication with other brains. In order to be successful, a memetic virus must readily copy itself and resist removal from its host. The idea of God, an omnipotent, eternal being who demands worship from humans, is the shining example of such a virus. This viral nature of God ensures that the idea will continue to cripple mankind and prevent progress for as long as we exist. Religions, which can be thought of as variations of the God virus, command their hosts to "spread the good news" to other brains. While it is true that there can be religions that do not seek t...

Wagner-Modified Houts Questionnaire

It's been awhile since I was part of the Assemblies of God, and it appears they are getting more odd year by year. I suppose it is only natural that they develop increasingly weird programs, if for no other reason, than to stave off the boredom of banging the same old drum week after week. In a vain attempt to reduce the mechanics of Christian service into something that ignorant parishioners can latch onto, the big book of lies (BiBLe) has been relegated to second place in favor of, shall we call it: "the scientific method?" Well, there is no science in it, but it does make for some interesting reading. Sure glad I got out when I did! Here is a sample from the introduction: GREETINGS! You are about to become involved in an exciting spiritual exercise. God has given you one or more spiritual gifts if you are a Christian, and discovering that gift or gifts will be a thrilling experience. You will be asked to answer the 125 questions found in the "Wagner-Modified Houts...

Robertson says God says Bush will win

By Associated Press in the Oakland Tribune NORFOLK, Va. -- Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said Friday he believes God has told him President Bush will be re-elected in a "blowout" in November. "I think George Bush is going to win in a walk," Robertson said on his "700 Club" program on the Virginia Beach-based Christian Broadcasting Network, which he founded. "I really believe I'm hearing from the Lord it's going to be like a blowout election in 2004. It's shaping up that way." Robertson told viewers he spent several days in prayer at the end of 2003. "The Lord has just blessed him," Robertson said of Bush. "I mean, he could make terrible mistakes and comes out of it. It doesn't make any difference what he does, good or bad. God picks him up because he's a man of prayer and God's blessing him." The Rev. Barry W. Lynn, a frequent Robertson critic and executive director of Americans United for Separa...

Sting

Image
Perhaps it's my age, or perhaps it's just my taste in music, but I've enjoyed the music of "Sting" for years now. I've followed him in his career with the Police and later as a soloist. I liked him better as a soloist. I own copies of nearly all his albums, so I suppose I am a pathetic fan and not able to think critically when it comes to the singing star. I mean, I've even acquired his jazz album for crying out loud. I even liked him when he debuted as an actor in "DUNE." (I love Frank Herbert's stuff) Anyway, now he has written and released a book where he reveals his youth and development as a person. I received it as a, (shall I admit it?) Christmas present, and I have been enjoying it immensely. OMG..... You have to read it. The spiritual aspect of this hero of modern music parallels so much of those who frequent this site. I highly recommend it. You won't regret the read, and even though you will be adding to the fortu...
