How to Spot a 'True' Christian

Descriptions and signs of the true believer that Jesus himself set down.

Super Powers- Matt 10:1 And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity.

and Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Can Handle Snakes And Drink Poison- Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.

Can Walk Over Scorpions- Luke 10:19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you.

Must not Fornicate- 1st Corinthians 7:1-40 (Editors note: This is very long so I leave it to the reader to check it out!)

Must Hate Their Family- Luke 14:26 If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.

Does Their Family Hate Them?- Matt 10:21-22 Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

Are Perfect- Matt 5:48 You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Keep Women Silent- 1st Timothy 2:11-12 Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent.

Can Bend The Will Of God- Matt 18:19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.

Can Move Mountains- Matt 17:20 He said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move hence to yonder place,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you."

Can Wither Figs- Matt 21:19-22 And seeing a fig tree by the wayside he went to it, and found nothing on it but leaves only. And he said to it, "May no fruit ever come from you again!" And the fig tree withered at once. When the disciples saw it they marvelled, saying, "How did the fig tree wither at once?" And Jesus answered them, "Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and never doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will be done. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith."

The Bible tells us that a true Christian is a snake handling, scorpion treading, fig withering, disease curing, mountain moving, poison drinking, God commanding, family hating, woman shushing, sex abstaining and morally perfect as God.

There are many different types of Christians, many sects and denominations. In their pride and arrogance they all claim to be true believers. But it is important to make sure that we have the real thing because Jesus said that there would be many fakers.

In the following passages in the Bible Matt 7:15, Matt 24:23-24, Matt 7:22-23 and 1st John 4:1 Jesus tells us about false prophets, false Christians. When dealing with Christians ask them if they are 'true' Christians. If the answer is 'yes' then chuck them a taipan and stick a few scorpions in their shoes.

This site is unbelieveable! I am truly dumbfounded - if you really read this page/this site, you can see that most of these "ex-Christians" are too 'worldly educated' for their own good. I DO believe in the Literal Word of God in the Bible - however, I realize that I don't fully understand everything, (does anyone on earth whom has ever lived, fully understand EVERYTHING about everything - truly??!!). Take Luke 14: 26 (you must hate your father, mother, wife, children, etc) - I believe this means that you are to Love HIM (Jesus/God) more than these (family/friends) and to not put them, or anyone/anything before HIM (as in the 10 Commandments, 'thou shalt have no other gods before me). How do you argue these points with 'intellects', as surely their understanding is limited to the things of this world - and those who have truly given over their lives to the Savior, are given understanding, an inner ear to their conscience which is wise beyond our own understanding. However, full understanding is something that is given cautiously by God, I know this for a fact because a question I asked God when I gave my life to him at the tender age of 16, was not answered for 10 years, and when I least expected it - yet, it was full of wisdom and truth!

I also don't fully understand 1st Timothy 2:11-12, about keeping women silent and that they are not to teach or have authority over men (?) What about great women of God like Beth Moore & Joyce Meyers, these women truly do teach and are truly lead by the Holy Spirit - what a loss to Christian Women (or, for that matter, Christian men) if they were to stop teaching & 'be silent'?? I am in prayer over these issues - I know that the Holy Spirit will reveal His wisdom and truthful answers when He sees fit, for now -it is enough to trust and belive.

As for 'extra-biblical evidence for Jesus' - refer to these writings of the following ancient Historians;

Tacitus (AD 55-120), mentions Christ and even connects his crucifixtion to Pilate. in his "Tacitus"15:44. Tacitus was a Roman emperor. He has been called the "greatest historian" of ancient Rome, an individual generally acknowledged among scholars for his moral "integrity and essential goodness." (Hadas, "Introduction To the Complete Works of Tacitus,"pp.IX,XII-XIV.) He wrote the "Annal", and the "Histories." In "Tacitus" 15:44 he speaks about Christ, Pontius Pilate, and says Jesus died during the reign of emperor Tiberius. Scholar F.F. Bruce has noted that Tacitus probably received his information from an official record. It may have even been contained in one of Pilates reports, to which Tacitus would have had access because of his standing with the government. ( "Christian Origins,"p.23.). To assume that Tacitus relied upon the New Testament, is to admit that Tacitus took it as an historical account, as he refers to Pilate, Tiberius, and Jesus. Also worthy of noting, "Christus" is merely Latin for Christ. And he links this Christus with Pilate, Tiberius, and crucifixion.

Suetonius (second century) mentions Christ in "Claudius" 25, and the Christians in "Nero",16.

Josephus (37-97), speaks about Jesus in the "Antiquities,"20:9; 18:3. (This second references (18:3), has been disputed, but today most scholars agree it is authentic.

Thallus (AD 52) mentions the earthquake and Sun going dark at Jesus crucifixtion. (quoted by Julius Africanus in "Extant Writings," XVIII in the Amte-Nicene Fathers."

Government Officials

Pliny the Younger (AD 112), speaks about Jesus in his tenth book.

Emperor Trajan (AD 112), wrote a response to Pliny (ibid., X:97.).

Emperor Hadrian (AD 117-138) speaks about the Christians (Eusebius, "Ecclesiastical History," IV:IX.).

Other Jewish Sources:

The Talmud (AD 200) speaks about Jesus and his crucifixtion. ("Sanhedrin" 43a,p.281 quoted from "The Babylonian Talmud.")

Toledoth Jesu (it was not written untill the 5th cen, but reflects earlier Jewish tradition.).

Gentile Sources;

Lucian (second century)"The Works of Lucian Samosata," vol.4.

Serapion (written between the first and second centuries) British Museum, Syriac Manuscript, Additional 14,658. See "Christian Origins," by Bruce, p. 31.
The following Gnostic sources deal specifically with the historical aspect of Jesus. All these sources come from the second century. (Gnosticism was an early christian heresy.).

The Gospel of Truth 26:4-8;30:27-33;31:4-6.

The Apocryphon of John 1:5-17.

The Gospel of Thomas 32:10-11;34:30-35:4. (Ibid., 43, 44, 45, 46, 49.).

The Treatise on Ressurection 44:13-36; 45, 46, 48.

Other Lost Works

Acts of Pontius Pilate (AD 150 to 200). Quoted by Justin Martyr in "First Apology," XXXV; XLVIII, "Apology," V.

Phlegon (AD 80). Quoted by Origin in "Contra Celsum" XIV; XIVIII; LIX.

Ancient Christian Non-New Testament. This group was in the first century.

Clement of Rome (AD 90-125) "Corinthians" 42.

Ignatius (he was an eye-witness to early Christian doctrine.( AD 110-115). "Trallians" 9; "Smyranaeans," 1.

Quadradus (AD 125). Eusebius, "Ecclesiastical History," IV:III.

Barnabus (AD 126-155). "Barnabas" 5.

Justin Martyr (AD 150). "First Apology," XLVII; XXXIV. Note: Justin references to the "Acts of Pontius Pilate," where Justin states that Jesus healing of diseases and raising from the dead could be evidenced from Pilate's report. (First Apology, XLVIII.). I want to point out the fact that Roman historians only wrote about official religious or political spokespersons. It shouldn't surprise us that Jesus and John the Baptist received as much press as they did. Also, If Jesus never existed, the saints would never have been able to reach the level of sanctity they did. There are thousands upon thousands of saints in history that reached the higest levels of sanctity. The only reason this was possible, is because Jesus sent the Holy Spirit into the world. People who deny Jesus, have obviously never experienced his life transforming grace.
I do not doubt that this 'blog' will be ripped apart by those so desperately seeking to 'disprove' Jesus as Lord, it has happened throughout the centuries & will continue to happen - I am not here to prove God, HE alone does that each day with the sunrise & sunset, even a blade of grass - as intricate as it is,(see any highschool science book)- proves there is a Master Creator - as they are just too intricate to have been just an accident...

Hmmmm, you believe in the Literal Word of God as "fact", but follow that up with you don't fully understand everything... so, you are either a fool, or have "blind faith"... I'll assume you are using "blind faith" as your litmus test for the validity of the bible...

prarwrer: "There are thousands upon thousands of saints in history that reached the higest levels of sanctity. The only reason this was possible, is because Jesus sent the Holy Spirit into the world."

Ah, is that so, young sky-walker...

"Steps to Sainthood

In the 10th century, Pope John XV developed an official canonisation procecuare, which went through some revisions in the ensuing 1,000 years. The process must begin five years after the candidate's death.

Local bishops investigate the life of the candidate and the findings are sent to the Vatican.

After approval by a panel of theologians and cardinals, the pope proclaims the candidate is "venerable," meaning a role model of Roman Catholic virtues.

The next step is beatification if it is determined by the church that the candidate is responsible for a miracle after his or her death.

Finally, for the designation of saint, the church must certify proof of a second posthumous miracle."

And, how does the Pope certify proof of a second miracle "after" the candidate dies?

"These alleged miracles must be submitted to the Vatican for verification. Sister Teresia Benedicta of the Cross was canonized in 1997 after the Vatican verified that a young girl who ate seven times the lethal dose of Tylenol was suddenly cured. The girl's family was said to have prayed to the spirit of Sister Teresia for help. In Mother Teresa's case, her supporters are arguing that she has performed at least two posthumous miracles. In one case, a French woman in the United States broke several ribs in a car accident -- reportedly, her wounds were healed because she was wearing a Mother Teresa medallion. Another possible miracle occurred when Mother Teresa appeared in the dreams of a Palestinian girl, telling the girl that her cancer was cured."

Okay, I am seeing many "people" making decisions and making statements, and 'no' proof of a holy ghost/spirit flying around making things happen... Sainthood is founded upon theological, cardinal, and pope "vote", and is a way for catholic followers to promote their role model, in a mystical sense... The U.S. President gives out medals of honor for acts of heroism, with the military commander input, and documentation of deeds... and the Pope gives out sainthood, based on cardinal inputs, and followers statements of deeds... I suppose the Holy Ghost is present during the voting for a new pope also... and the holy ghost is moving the pencils, and pens of those selected of the College of Cardinal who take that vote... Perhaps, then, its the holy ghost who moves the fingers of mankind to squeeze the gun triggers which kill...

I'm sure, since you state you don't know everything, that perception plays a huge part in mysticism... Some say Perception is Reality, I say, perhaps... but knowledge, changes perception...

Those who state that they can't know anything for sure, and only accept what they can see on the surface, tend to have a much more shallow perception of reality... its just how the formula works...

Here is an article that addresses nearly everything in your long post. BTW, I've read Josh McDowell's books too.
