It's not quite “We are the world”

God Hates the World
A new music video from the Westboro Baptist Church. Have a barf bag handy. The best (worst) part is at the end.

Although pretty much everyone considers the Westboro Baptists to be a fringe group, there "gospel" is really no different from any Christian denomination's "gospel."

Some say God loves you. These guys say God hates you. They all say "Believe or Burn!"

It's too bad we can't get this aired during prime time tv.A little more of this in the media and maybe we can end the stranglehold of the theists running this country.

Naw, wouldn't work. The Mainstream Profits dis-associate themselves from the fringe, like Phelps and the rattlesnake kissers up in Fort Wayne.

In the mind of your average "Christian Agape" on Sunday, mistreat your employees on Monday magic-believer, they have about as much in common with Phelps' inbreds as they do with Marilynn Manson.

Phelps is an Exhibitionist. The less ink he gets, the more outrageous the behavior comes. First, he picketed Gay funerals, and when he stopped being the lead story on the 6 o'clock news for that, he started the bullshit of picketing the funerals of soldiers, changing his story to "gawd hates Murka because they don't hate Fags, like I do".

The Westboro Baptist Church has a new slogan "We're not prejudiced, we hate everybody". I guess they got tired of saying god hates homosexuals, witches, liberals, buddhists, muslims, etc. So now it is God Hates The World. The most sickening part is when the little girl has memorized the words to that horrible song. Truly Disgusting!

That wasn't the funniest thing I have seen this year, but it was down right hilarious.

Yeah, the kid at the end broke my heart...

I wonder if Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson can sue this church out of existence for copyright infringement...did the church pay royalties, or are all the singers also going to fry for stealing music rights...

If I saw this on TV, I would have
assumed I was watching a satirical
bit on Comedy Central. Sadly, its all too true.

I didn't get a head count on how
many people were in that choir, but it is frightening so many emotionally ill people can come
together for the sole purpose of
hate. Other fundamentalist churches
take this message and sugar-coat it a bit, but in the end, its all about hate and intolerance.

As for that poor child at the end?
All dictators, whether religious or
political, know the brainwashing
all starts with the children.

about hate and intolerance.
While I am not well learned about Westboro Baptist Church,

I would argue that they do not proclaim the message of Christianity. It is not hard for the reader of the NT to see that hate is not the message of Christ. I would hope you can see through this bigotry.

Many Christians say that the Phelps gang does not convey the message of christ, but an argument can also be made that Phelps & Co. merely preach the bible to the letter of the law, e.g., the stuff about men who lie with men deserving death.

The good news is what you see in the video is probably pretty much all of them; it's mainly just the Phelps extended family and a few others.

Humm' Must be too much inbreeding going on in that church. These people are wayyyyyy past rational thinking. It's really too bad that they continue to breed. Clearly not one of them is smart enough to think for him or herself.
Fuck it, time to send in the ATF! :)

Josh,

You don't think this group are real Christians? Care to identify the specifics with which you believe they are in error?

Love the sinner, hate the sin!

Hey Josh,

I have to agree with Webmaster Dave. Everything they preach they get from the bible.

I used to say that they were only cherry picking the hateful stuff, but then I realized I was only cherry picking the loving stuff and ignoring what a prick the god of the OT is.

If you want to believe the bible is the inspired word of god, then you need to accept that Phelps may be the ones that have it right.

Or you can do what I did and pitch the whole stinking bible in the garbage where it belongs.

I get more reality about the human condition from Dickens, Twain and other authors. All of whom produce much better fiction than the bible.

Oh, I'd like to add that the god of the NT ain't much better. "Accept my wonderful free gift, or burn for all eternity. Have a nice day now."

Oh yeah, he's a real sweetheart.

Josh: It is not hard for the reader of the NT to see that hate is not the message of Christ.

Could you prove that when it mattered? I found a number of YouTube videos that feature the clan of WBC. In one, Shirley Phelps was approached for a debate by a Southern Baptist Minister while WBC was picketing the SBC convention.

It was sad how thoroughly this fellow was raked for his lack of biblical knowledge. You do realize that having a lot of biblical knowledge will either make you a wack-job like the Phelps or an Ex-Christian like many of us... Right?

The folks at WBC know their Bible far better than you do, Josh. And that is pretty damn scary.

I was actually pulling for the SBC guy... But he ended up looking silly.

If I didn't recognise the woman in front from an interview, I'd be sure this is a parody. Man, these people make Christians look really bad...

If your best friend is drunk and wants to drive to the next party and you try to stop him and he gets upset and calls you names and even pushs you down do you not get back up and stop him even though he may stop being your friend. isnt that showing more love and friendship than letting him drive.

Well... Ummm... Huh?

What the hell does this mean?

Ugh. That was sick. Especially the part at the end with the little girl. That's child abuse. You can tell from the little one's eyes that she has no idea what she's singing. She just thinks it's a cute little song. Poor thing:(

Oh, and by the way, the anonymous post about not letting a drunk friend drive is a BS analogy about why Christians feel they need to "warn" us about the dangers of not believing in their god. The person just left off the gist, is all. It's similar to another BS analogy my grandma always tells me. It goes like this:

"If you were on a ship and noticed that it had sprung a leak in the middle of the night, would you get into the lifeboat yourself and get to safety or would you risk everyone else's anger when you woke them up to tell them that the ship was sinking? This world is a ship and it's going down. God is the only life preserver. If I don't tell you about him, then it's like me getting in the lifeboat and leaving you asleep in your bunk."

I always thought that analogy (and every one like it) was so darn stupid. There's a BIG difference between a ship sinking and the supposed wrath of god. For one, on a sinking ship, you can see that there is, indeed, a ship and that it is sinking. Same goes for a drunk friend that doesn't know he's had enough. You can see your friend, you can see he's drunk, you know what happens when someone drinks and drives from numerous news reports. Now, since these stupid analogies are comparing these things to warning people about the dangers of nonbelief, let me ask: Where is this god? What evidence is there that the world is going to end and come to a screeching halt? I see neither. So it's all BS.

As an Atheist this video is what I go through from the mouths of christians. The words may be different, but it is all the same. The hate that is given to someone who does not accept their god. The hate given when we keep to our own ideals. The hate given when they realize that we will not be converted. This video is a joke on levels that go far beyond the simple. This is a bunch of people who simply hate others that DARE to be different.

I assumed that is what the drive-by anony-poster was saying, but I was hoping they'd stick around long enough to explain their point - and if they believed that the analogy was enough to excuse the tactics of Westboro Baptist Church.

Interesting boat analogy... And good explanation for why it doesn't "hold water" (couldn't help myself!).

I doubt I would be angry if someone kept me from driving my car durnk or woke me to tell me my cruise ship was sinking. But I've heard the warnings from Christians and frankly, I think they are bunk (like you).

This ship IS sinking, but only because we're poking holes in it. And sadly - there is no life raft...

I cannot help but feel sorry for the little girl. I can't imagine how those people believe their god love them and hates everyone else.

Josh, I think those guys know the bible more than you do. Because that's what exactly you can find in that book. Hate everybody whose not chosen! Even christ told his disciples that who ever follow must hate his father, mother, brother, sister, wife, children, even themselves if you want to be his good old disciple. Luke 14:26

Come to think of it, why did not jesus mentioned husbands on the list? I think because he was talking to the men only on purpose. That's why I don't understand why the women that sings think they are disciples of their all loving jesus when they were supposed to be hated by their husbands?

Totally irrational thing.

Did anyone else pick up on this group of Xtians singing about "the world and all HER people"? Kind of a pantheistic way of referring to the earth, isn't it? Haven't we all met equally strident Earth Mother types along the way; which makes me think that rigidly fundamentalist types will gravitate to one form or another of rigid fundamentalism sooner or later, and it's really the luck of the draw as to which flavour of it overtakes that person first, like an opportunistic infection that seizes on an already compromised temperament. For Shirley Phelps, who I predict (not to say prophesy...) will some day look more like the man than the woman in the American Gothic painting, it was, evidently, Christian fundamentalism.

WELL MY FRIENDS, WE SEE HOW DANGEROUS AND SCARRY CHRISTIANITY CAN BE WHEN TOTAL IDIOTS BUST THRU THE COCKPIT DOORS AND TURN IT AROUND, THROTTLE IT OPEN WIDE, AND THEN THEY USE IT AS A WEAPON.
A DANGEROUS WEAPON TO BE USED
AGAINST OUR U.S. SOLDIERS, AGAINST THE AMISH, AGAINST THE INNOCENT VICTIMS OF 911, AGAINST HARDWORKING MINERS WHO PERISHED WHILE WORKING HARD TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES. AGAINST THE GAY AND LESBIAN COMMUNITY AND AGAINST THE CONSCIOUS OF ANYBODY BASICALLY NORMAL WHO LOVES THE U.S.A. THEY GO AFTER ANYBODY ELSE THEY CHOOSE TO GO AFTER.

WELL, THIS HAS TO BE STOPPED.
THIS CAN NOT GO ON. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE.
THE BIBLE COMMANDS US TO "GATHER UP ALL THAT OFFENDS" I.E. BURN IT. WELL, THIS WESTBORO MESS NEEDS TO BE GATHERED UP.

I WILL NOT, AND CAN NOT, DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL BUT I AM AT YOUR SERVICE AND WILL ANSWER THE CALL TO ARMS SO TO SPEAK, IN DOING MY PART TO WORK AGAINST THIS GARBAGE.

I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I SAW AND HEARD.
AND JUST FOR THE RECORD, THEY ARE NUTS AND NOT IN ANY WAY RELATED TO THE REAL CHRISTIANS OR THE REAL THING KNOWN AS CHRISTIANITY AND SO BECAUSE IT IS NOT REALLY OF GOD WE ARE TOTALLY ABLE TO OVERTHROW IT AND WE NEED TO, TAKE THIS MESS DOWN AND BURY IT.

Still pondering this Westboro mess. Still sickened.

Perhaps it's the enemies of Christianity working overtime to give it a bad name?

Perhaps I was right the first time. Just a bunch of offensive crazy idiots who hijacked a church?
Perhaps both?

I'm still outraged over this.

In the mental health profession, there is the concept of not "attending to" negative behavior in order to elicit a more positive response. Really, if the media would ignore these people, they would go away. They can't function without an audience; it's part of their mental illness (some kind of collective schizoaffective plus personality disorder?). Any outrage directed toward them just feeds the illness... so, please, people, ignore them. Don't write or call telling them what insensitive unchristian assholes they are; that only proves to them that they're right.
Anonymous said…
Yes, That's it! I can ignore it and it'll go away.

Just tell the media who by nature looks for stuff like this to air all the time. Just ask them to not do their jobs. Yes. That'll work.

Just let it grow, like cancer. Pretend it's not there and everything will be fine.
Ok, Done.
I'm going to go swimming and enjoy life and not waste my time with any more causes.

Please keep the group here informed if any of these nut jobs pass on, pass away, kick the bucket so I can drop everything I am doing and travel cross country at my own expense so I too, can hold up the proper equivilent hand held poster board sign at PHELPS' Funeral.

I want to travel and scrub the streets clean again after they walk on it.
Keep us informed of their antics
please.
