Are Americans scared to "come out"? I realise that Americans who declare themselves to be atheist are risking all. Loss of face, family, career, business, etc. . The World needs some brave Americans to "come out" and declare their non-belief.
I'm English/Australian and actually enjoy telling people that I have no
"faith" and that I don't believe in a god or gods. I like t get people thinking and questioning their ridiculous beliefs.

This is an old tradition as the court Jester could tell even the king the hard truth without risking punishment. He was the "fool" who could say what the king did not want to hear. Somehow I think kings that lasted over time learned that they needed someone who could bring the foolish reality into their courts.
The other thing that the Jester brought was laughter and that along with honest expression is another ingredient to a well balanced life. Let's hear it for the fools who speak the truth and cause us to laugh at ourselves!

This is a little off-topic, but i think the Americans are being unfairly criticized here for not being proactive enough. We do have the Simpsons, the bus campaign, a growing non-religious sector and i believe a lot of posters on this site are from the US, as well. On the other hand, my favorite anti-religion blogger is Ken Humphrey's.

I always come back to this - whether it's neurological (as I suspect, and as some evidence would now indicate), or learned behavior, they should be regarded as being developmentally challenged, and should under no circumstances be allowed to influence public policy. In other words, they shouldn't be voting. They're largely responsible for the economic mess in which we currently find ourselves.
Yes. This is exactly it. No politician could win an election if he/she came out. An actor would have a hard time getting cast. A teacher in my town coming out? Forget about it. Parents would be out for blood.
Comedians are about the only ones who can say what they really think and get away with it. And even then, they have to leave some doubt as to whether they mean it or not.
I wish we were as accepting of atheism over here. But it seems we are, for the most part, a nation of big mouths and small minds.
I found the comments to be just as entertaining as the video, but with thousands of comments, and Youtube's lack of consistency in posting them correctly, I could only read so many.
The same silly rebuttals by the Xtians - Stalin and Pao Pot killing millions because they were atheists, what's there to live for if you don't get to live in eternal bliss with an afterlife? Quotes from the bible to prove the bible is true . . . ad nauseum!
I've subscribed to his channel and always look forward to new videos from Mr.Condell.
